The lifeguards assisted me and I had to take a cab to the hospital (which I had to pay. On our second day I came out of the pool, making sure to hold onto the railing, and I still managed to slip and severely break my wrist. The pool is beautiful, but the tiling around the steps (and majority of the resort) is quite unsafe when wet. Our main issue, however, was with the safety of the infinity pool, and other areas of the resort. In any case, the staff tried to accommodate us by giving us a room early, but the lock on the door did not work, so it had to be fixed, and even so it was difficult to use for the few days we actually stayed. Initially the resort was not ready for us when we arrived as rooms were not available for most of the day (arrival in the AM and had to wait to 3-4 for a room). We have traveled to other RIU resorts in the area multiple times and we absolutely love them, but our experience with the Palace was less than satisfactory.
